This Is Us | Jack and Rebecca | 70s Inspired Photoshoot

Christopher & Lindsey are one of the most beautiful couples I’ve ever had the privilege of working with!

First off let me say that I love being a photographer. I absolutely love capturing genuine moments between couples and families! Documenting milestones and celebrating love. That being said, sometimes I am not as excited about my job. In the era of Pinterest, some photo sessions have become… well, mundane for lack of better wording. Don’t get me wrong I love Pinterest and find a lot of my ideas there. However, I’m noticing a trend of people wanting exact copies or focusing on a “list” of photos for their photo session. Which is fine if you like that, OK great. But, what I’m proposing is that you think outside the box. If you focus on copying someone else’s exact photos you miss the real moments happening within your family. Every couple and family have a different dynamic, different love languages. So what I propose is that you work along with your photographer and come up with a fun out of the box way of documenting your love story.

This is why I love themed sessions. They don’t have to have a lot of detail to be great. This will make your session fun and unique. Not only will you love it but your photographer will too. Especially if that photographer is me!

I would be lying if I said it started out as a This Is Us, Jack and Rebecca, Inspired Session. However, I think it was subconsciously there from the start because I mean just look at these! I don’t usually start watching new shows. I’m a binge watcher of old shows like Cheers, Golden Girls, Friends, you get it. Over and over and over. Then in the third season of This Is Us all of my friends were going on and on about how amazing the show was. So I caved and began binge watching the first season. Then the second, and on to the third. Side note: I do not recommend doing this to anyone. Too many emotions in one sitting! I’m talking ugly crying, can’t breathe, this is so beautiful. The characters of Jack and Rebecca soon became a favorite. They didn’t just show the happy side of life. They shared the pain and the struggles that come, the highs with the lows.

Christopher & Lindsey are one of the most beautiful couples I’ve ever had the privilege of working with! I don’t just mean good looking, I mean sweet beautiful human beings inside and out. It was an honor to do their engagement and wedding photography! This past August was their 1 year Anniversary. I proposed to them that we have a little fun and do a theme. I had been wanting to do a 70’s themed session for a while and they loved the idea. So after months of planning we have arrived at this gorgeous session!

Ally + TJ

Ally knew she wanted to have a first look with her dad and brothers and TJ. Talk about a day full of joy and happy tears! When her dad saw her he couldn't hold the tears back

Ally & TJ are the cutest couple! We had so much fun on their engagement session that we ended up having another one downtown! Their smiles and laughter are infectious! Ally knew she wanted to have a first look with her dad and brothers and TJ. Talk about a day full of joy and happy tears! When her dad saw her he couldn't hold the tears back. It was the most beautiful moment. Everyone else in the room went silent, and just witnessed their interchange of love and joy. Moments like these are what its all about! When Ally & TJ are together you can just feel their love.

Another thing I love about Ally & TJ is they love to have fun together! They love to dance as you can see from their reception! Along with the traditional first dances, Ally danced with her father Al to a mix of dance songs. Then TJ danced with his father, which in turn led to an epic dance off between the families! Ally's Father Al announced: " The winner would be taking Ally home ". After the dance off however, when deciding who had won TJ swooped Ally up and ran off the dance floor! Everyone laughed and danced the rest of the night away! Truly a wedding to remember!

Sierra + Trace

Documenting Sierra's wedding was very special to me. Not because the location was amazing, or because her dress was swoon worthy! Although those are both true, what made it even more special to me was that Sierra and her family have been friends of ours for over 11 years. This is significant because her and her family came to our wedding 10 years ago.

November 3, 2007 Sierra and her family traveled to Illinois from Florida to witness our wedding. November 3, 2017 exactly 10 years later I was able to not only witness Sierra's wedding, but to capture every beautiful moment of it! We now share an anniversary!

Sierra & Trace held their reception at the Jacksonville Zoo, in the Range of the Jaguar exhibit. This was special to both Sierra and Trace because of their love for animals! Trace is currently training at a veterinary office!

Sierra loves to dance and is a ballet teacher! There were sweet details throughout the day to incorporate her love of ballet. Including her sweet students who came to see her get married!

To say it was a dream to photograph is an understatement! It was the most beautiful day! From bridals in the gardens to the Jaguar coming up behind the wedding cake just in time! The carousel they lit up just for the Bride & Groom at dusk. Documenting their gorgeous day was a true privilege!

Why I recommend a first look.

Imagine... I take you both out to a named location, then I say okay you can turn around! No one else is too close by. You get to see each other, laugh, hug, cry, kiss. Much more than if you were seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony.

Don't get me wrong I love traditional weddings and at my very own wedding we waited until the ceremony to see each other. However, there are so many benefits to a first look!

If you want the most photos possible a first look is the choice to make! You have time for all of the bridal portraits before the ceremony even begins. Then after a few quick family portraits you have time for some more intimate photos of just the new couple! You're both usually more relaxed and no one else is around so these portraits are usually some of my favorites!

DAYLIGHT!! This year especially I have had many weddings after daylight savings time late in the year and we lose daylight so very quickly! So if you had wanted to get married around say 4, or 5, by the time the ceremony is over, guests are out, and family portraits are over... The sun has set. Leaving no time for outdoor bridal portraits!

Worried you will miss the emotion of seeing each other when you walk down the aisle? Don't be! There is still so much emotion in the first look! Actually sometimes more!

Imagine... I take you both out to a named location, then I say okay you can turn around! No one else is too close by. You get to see each other, laugh, hug, cry, kiss. Much more than if you were seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony.

All in all there are many benefits to both! In the end you must take into consideration your circumstances and wants and make a decision together that you`ll both be happy with!
